Arlene Lopez Obituary, Death – On Thursday, October 26th, Arlene Lopez, who was 93 years old, passed away without incident to be with her cherished dance partner, Ralph Lopez. Arlene has spent the past two years of her life in Glen Carbon, Illinois, at Brightly Senior Living. She chose to live there so that she could be closer to her immediate family. She was a well-liked member of their community and an enthusiastic participant in all of the fun activities that were offered there.
Prior to that, she had spent her whole life in Carlyle, on the farm that her family had owned for generations, where she and Ralph had reared their three children. She is succeeded in death by her three children. The Lopez family, including Mike and Connie Lopez of Godfrey, Craig Lopez of Florissant, and Mitch and Bob Meyers of Glen Carbon. In addition, she is the grandmother of three children: Zack and Abbey Meyers, as well as Jordan Lopez.
James Lopez was the only great-grandson that she had. Arlene maintained tight relationships with her longtime friends Edna Woltering and Melinda Hutchinson, as well as with her sister Dorsey Guenzburger of Carlyle. Arlene was devoutly devoted to the United Church of Christ throughout her life. She and her husband Ralph were avid adventurers who had friends all throughout the United States.
She was known as a “wicked bridge player” and also enjoyed golf, sewing, and knitting in her spare time. In addition to being an excellent cook, she enjoyed hosting dinner parties for her family and friends. She was renowned all over the world for her pies and breads, particularly her yeast rolls and garlic bread. She was a joy to have at any celebration, but especially the ones that included her relatives. All those who were fortunate enough to have known her will honor her memory and mourn the loss of their friend.
