David Shaw is the former American football player and the head coach of the Stanford Cardinal football team. David Lorenzo Shaw was born on July 31, 1972, in San Diego, California to parents Willie Shaw. As per his nationality, he is American and belongs to African-American ethnic group. Further, his star sign is Leo. He grew up along with his sister, Tawnya Shaw

He attended Rochester Adams High School in Rochester Hills, Michigan then transferred to James Logan High School in Union City, California where he began playing football.

After completing high school, He went to Stanford University, where he played in college team as a wide receiver under head coaches Dennis Green and Bill Walsh. In his college career, he caught 57 passes for 664 yards and scored five touchdowns. Shaw was also playing basketball for Stanford men's basketball teams before earning a B. A in sociology in 1995.

In the year 1995, Shaw begins his coaching career at Western Washington University. As the Raiders quality control from 1998-2000 and quarterbacks coach in 2001, the team won two consecutive AFC West titles. 

Shaw coached quarterbacks of Baltimore Ravens from 2002-2004 and wide receivers of Ravens from 2002-2005, with the 2003 team finishing with a 10-6 regular season mark and winning the AFC North.

In 2006, Shaw left the NFL and joined the University of San Diego head coach Jim Harbaugh's staff as passing game coordinator. Afterward, Harbaugh was hired as head coach of Standford University, in 2007, he also brought Shaw as offensive coordinator.

Later on January 2011, Harbaugh left the Stanford after an offer of NFL's San Francisco 49ers as head coach and Shaw was promoted to head coach of Stanford. He was the first Stanford alumnus to serve as head football coach since Paul Wiggin.

In his first three seasons, Shaw led the team to three consecutive BCS bowl games, including two Bowls and Steered the team to a Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin.

In the 2015 season, Shaw again guided Stanford to its third Pac-12 championship in four years, and as a result, its third Rose Bowl in four years. Shaw became the first Standford coach in 80 years to win three conference titles. The victory over Lowa in the 2015 season led Stanford to rank #3 in the final coaches poll.

After the win over Cal in 2017 Big Game at Stanford Stadium, Shaw also set a new Stanford record for most wins by a football coach, breaking the previous record held by Pop Warner.
