Dejounte Murray Achievements

NBA Career of Dejounte Murray

The San Antonio Spurs selected Murray with the 29th overall pick. He was acclaimed for his defence and quickness upon entering the league, but there were questions about how the offence would function around him given his subpar shooting. His involvement was initially restricted, as he appeared in only 23 regular-season games.

His season-high of 24 points against the Denver Nuggets, though, made him the Spurs’ youngest player to score 24 or more points. When Tony Parker went down with a leg injury, Murray took over as the Spurs’ starting point guard in Game 3 of the Conference Semifinals against the Houston Rockets, and he helped the club win the series and proceed to the conference finals, where they were defeated by the Golden State Warriors.

Murray featured in 81 games and started 48 of them in his second season. He averaged 8.1 points per game but shot less than 30% from three. However, his defensive performances were critical to the club, especially with Kawhi Leonard out due to injury, and he became the franchise’s youngest All-Defensive selection.

Murray missed the whole 2018-2019 season due to a preseason ACL rupture. Murray was the Spurs’ starting point guard until the 2019-2020 season was cancelled due to coronavirus. He improved significantly on both 2 and 3 point jumpers and was once again very crucial on defence, ranking 7th in the league in thefts at the time of suspension.

Personal Life

Murray’s high school produced many NBA players, including Jamal Crawford and Nate Robinson. Murray credits some of these players as important mentors growing up. Murray has a daughter named Riley.
