Florian Cloud de Bounevialle Armstrong Wiki Biography
Dido Florian Cloud de Bounevialle O’Malley Armstrong was born on the 25th December 1971, in Kensington, London, England, of part-French (mother) and Irish (father) ancestry. She is a singer and songwriter, the winner of four Brit Awards. Her albums “No Angel” (1999) and “Life for Rent” (2003) were ranked among the 10 best selling albums of the decade in the UK. Dido has been active in the music industry since 1995, though she only became famous worldwide in 2002.
How rich is the singer? Authoritative sources have estimated that the overall size of Dido’s net worth is as much as $15 million, as of the data given in early 2017. Music is the main source of her wealth. In 2004, she entered the top ten richest artists in the world with revenues of $19.47 million.
Dido Net Worth $15 Million
To begin with, Dido first attended the City of London School for Girls and then the Westminster School (both historical private schools). After she showed an interest in studying music, she went to the London Guildhall School of Music, where she learned piano and violin playing. She is the sister of music producer Rollo Armstrong.
Before her solo career Dido was a back-up singer for Faithless, the band of her brother Rollo. Still as a back singer she released the demo album “Odds and Ends” (1995) for promotional purposes; several pieces are also on her debut album “No Angel” (1999). However, the album received the right promotional push only in 2001, after collaboration with Eminem, and when the album was re-released as a special edition at the beginning of 2001, it suddenly become a major commercial phenomenon, peaking immediately on the charts. It became the 2nd biggest selling album in the UK in the new millennium, reaching in total 21 million copies sold worldwide. Even the singles “Here With Me” and “Thank You”, got good results in world chartings. In 2002, the artist won two Brit Awards (The Best Female Artist and the Best British Disc) as well as three World Music Awards. Her net worth was certainly rising.
Due to expectations of the public and critics as well as acquired enormous commercial potential, Dido then focused on the job in a studio isolated in the English countryside. In 2003, she released her second album “Life for Rent”, which was a great success selling 13 million copies worldwide. The third album “Safe Trip Home” was released only in 2008, and sold five million copies, giving it a somewhat disappointing result compared to the previous albums. At the beginning of 2009, Dido announced work on 4th album songs, however, the album “Girl Who Got Away” was released only in 2013. Nevertheless, the singer was working long hours on the aforementioned album, but it was the least successful of all selling only 800,000 copies all over the world.
Moreover, Dido is also known for collaborations with other artists; she is one of the authors of the song “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman”, sung by Britney Spears. Moreover, Dido has performed songs with other artists, including “Feels Like Fire” for Carlos Santana, and a duet with Rufus Wainwright entitled “I Eat Dinner (When the Hunger’s Gone)” for the soundtrack of the film “What a Mess, Bridget Jones”, and many other songs.
Finally, in the personal life of Dido, she has been married to Rohan Gavin since 2010. The couple has a son named Stanley, born in the middle of 2011. Dido says that she is ‘a diehard supporter of Arsenal FC’, the English soccer team.

1 | It can be just playing two chords and making up lyrics about what you did that day or putting forward a point of view. That's how I started. It's fun and we ought to get children writing. I don't make political comments but I do want the Government to put music right at the top of the cirriculum. Having that option was vital for me. |
2 | Playing the recorder and taking music lessons was a great escape and helped open up my mind as a child. |
3 | It is much more satisfying to write your own songs. Otherwise you are only as good as the next batch of songwriters. You have to put in the hours too. I did eight tours of the US, playing as many gigs as possible before I was a hit here. As well as being much more satisfying, writing your own songs gives you a better chance of having a longterm career. |
4 | I would not have had the opportunity to achieve what I have done without the encouragement of excellent teachers. Every child must have the opportunity to write songs and learn an instrument. |
5 | It feels like someone's rushed in and taken all your clothes off. - on hearing her songs played in public |
6 | (On her unusual name) "To be called one thing and christened another is actually very confusing and annoying. It's one of the most irritating things that my parents did to me. I'm still irritated by it. Florian is a German man's name. That's just mean. To give your child a whole lot of odd names. They were all so embarrassing." |
