Mr. Jordan Levy Jordan Levy, a Vernon Hill native who rose to prominence as mayor and talk show host due to his forthright nature, has died.

Levy died Thursday evening at the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester, following a brief illness. Sherri Beth Carpineto, her father’s daughter, characterized him as “a champion for Worcester” and “a supporter of the people of Worcester.” She also mentioned that he made significant financial and time commitments to a number of local charities.
Jordan Levy, the son of Benjamin and Rachel (Sher) Levy, attended Worcester Junior College before beginning a successful commercial career. During his extensive work at Parker Affiliated Cos., he rose to the position of president and chief executive officer. A Statement from Mayor Joseph M. Petty on the Passing of Jordan Levy:
The City of Worcester lost a true trailblazer in city
government with the passing of former Mayor Jordan Levy. As the current Mayor of Worcester, I want to pay tribute to the indomitable spirit of former Mayor… pic.twitter.com/XwhcmcK7cv

Levy served as mayor of Worcester for four terms, adding one term in the early 1980s and three more in 1988. He also served on the boards of the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority and the Governor’s Council. He entered the city’s political environment in the mid-1970s. He was elected to the City Council in 1975 and served until 1993.
At the time, he was a Democrat. Whether his opinions were contentious or not, he voiced them with zeal and venom. He spoke out against the proposed DCU Center Civic Center. One of the most popular parts of his radio show was a hilarious manner of expressing distaste. “It is time to throw them under the bus,” he’d say.
My deepest condolences to the family & friends of Jordan Levy, former & 1st popularly elected Mayor of Worcester (80-81, 88-93) & well-known host of the Jordan Levy Show on WTAG. A fearless public servant & true champion for Worcester, Levy’s legacy is one of character & strength
